Car Lighter
Your Path To Electronic Freedom
Car Lighters
A standard car lighter is usually a metal, and occasionally
plastic cylinder that contains a tightly curled nichrome wire,
through this curled wire, a high current can be passed through
when the lighter is on. The lighter is typically turned on by
pushing it down into the socket as if it were a button. When
the device is pushed into the socket, the wire is held against
the pressure of the a spring that is held by a hook that is
typically attached to a bi-metallic piece of metal. Immediate
the lighter becomes extremely hot evidenced by the orangeish
red glow. At this moment, if the lighter is taken out of the
socket, it can be used to light a plethora of things such as a
cigarette, paper, or a cigar.
Car Lighters In Newer Car Models
In newer models of car, it is becoming more and more regular
for automobile designer to also ship an adaptor plug to plug in
to the car lighter. This is because of the declining popularity
of smoking and tobacco in general. Although the car lighter is
being used as an actual lighter less and less, the actual power
supplied in the adaptor can power a number of portable
electronic devices, such as a fan, lights, and even a small
television.
