Car Cigarette Lighters
What Is a Car Cigarette Lighter? What Are The Uses?
The very familiar cigarette lighting receptacle that many of
us see every single day in our automobiles, was originally
designed to supply power to a dynamicly heated cigarette
lighter. Later on in time it was used as a makeshift DC power
supply for smaller electrical devices that could be used in or
around the vehicle, such as small fans, lights, tiny mechanical
tools such as a compressor when one needs to increase their
tire pressure, and devices that could keep a cup of coffe/tea
warm and even warm them up if they have gotten cold.
Car Cigarette Lighters as a Power Supply
Alot of electronic devices such as mp3 players or cell
phones use a car cigarette lighter to charge their batteries
and even take power directly from the automobile system to
completely dependantly operate on them. Traditionally, car
lighters have a very low wattage output, which is why people
will often purchase adaptors that actually increase the outputt
of the car lighter receptacle. With these adaptors you can even
operate devices that require alternating-current power of 120
volts to 240 volts. At the current level of technology, many
automobile makers are even giving cars specialized car lighter
receptacles for the main purpose of operating other portable
electronic devices.
